Lincoln Square/Ravenswood/part of North Center is a nice area...not really busy but not dead quiet on the main streets.

The three best neighborhoods in Chicago are boys town, wicker park and Hyde park with streeterville coming in 4th place. These are the main areas you should look. Boys town is the area in Chicago where no matter who and what you are gay straight, black, white Asian, Latino etc everyone is relaxed comfortable and accepting of everyone. This area has a live or let live vibe too it with lost of restaraunts, clubs, novelty shops etc. when I lived in Chicago I used to get off on Belmont and go to that army surplus store, the sex shop across the street from the belmont stop and the beer garden over near the briar street theatre. Wicker park is a great area also and has a lot of hipsters and alternative kids in this area great night clubs and hookah bars with a diverse gentrifying feel to it. Hyde park is decent but can be spotty in a few areas just don't venture to far back south and you should be fine. The museum, bars, diversity, restaraunts and the university make this area very attractive.

Streeterville is a boring neighborhood. Boystown is right next to Lakeview East.

I used crimereports.com to map out recent break-ins and was surprised to see the exorbitant amount in the Wicker area. Alternatively, I didn't notice very many in the LV/LP area. Though there were quite a few sexual crimes around Boystown...

I don't plan on staying in Chicago for any extended period of time. At most, 2-3 years. I plan on moving there with a car load of stuff and moving out with a car load of stuff. What do you guys think would be the best strategy in terms of filling my apartment with the necessary furniture?
