A friend and I are saving up now to move by January. Both single. I would be transferring my job. No cars. Very low bills. Late 20s. Interested in the usual 20-something nightlife: bars, lounges, concerts, food, museums, sports, etc.

We wanna look for a place about $600 apiece. Is this possible or feasible? How are CTA options? We are most familiar with NYC. We know what NYC is about, and we know Chicago is "lesser" or whatever the word would be, but we love Chicago for what it is. Different from NYC.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Sounds doable if you're not looking for new construction / high-end luxury living.

Yes, totally doable if you look around. If you walk around the neighborhood and look for things outside of craiglist, you'll find the best deals. I live in Avondale and pay around $760 for a 2 bedroom apartment. You'll find a lot of good deals in the Polish areas of Avondale, because a lot of the landlords there don't use craigslist or other online renting sites.

Not possible in Wicker, not possible in desirable parts of Logan, very possible in the rest of Logan and most of Avondale.

Another quick note, not all 2 bdrms are created equal and the second bdrm in many budget rentals is going to be incredibly tiny which could be an issue for an adult.

Avondale certainly. I'd try to live by the Belmont blueline, even pay a little more if I had to.

I wouldnt say its not possible, but it wont be a 'nice' or large unit. 2.5 ish years ago I lived in WP in a smallish basement apartment, I believe I was paying 1050. Given that rents went up it probably now goes for 1200ish

Noting your handle, you might want to look in the area bounded by Belmont-Addison-Sacramento-Kedzie, as you'd be close to the Belmont blue line as well as Revolution Brewery's Tap Room.

You'll want to walk or bike around and look for signs, landlords who are renting out a flat where they live are your best bet.

Avondale? Surely. Logan Square? Probably. Wicker Park? Doubtful.
