It's my understanding that the assessment percentage is 10%, the equalization factor is 2.8506, the homestead exemption is $7000, and the tax rate is 6.396%.

Does the below calculation seem right for a property actually in the city? 2 different sites gave me different sets of numbers.

Market val: $600K * .10 = $60K
$60K * 2.8506 = $171036
$178232 - $7K = $164036
$164036 * .06396 = $10491.74

You can get the PIN for the property at the Cook County Assessor's site and then use that on the Treasurer's site to see the actual tax bills.

I tried, but their website won't look up the property. It's a condo if that makes a difference.

That doesn't seem right. There is a condo for sale on my block, and I was able to look up the property taxes for the unit.

My tax bill went up 70% from last year to this, don't suppose anyone can point me to a lawyer to get this looked into?

My taxes went down a full 25% this year compared to last year. Most everyone I know pays between 1.2% and 1.5% of their homes value in taxes.

My 2011 tax bill for my bungalow in Albany Park was 7200. It was pretty big and also bordering Ravenswood Manor a few blocks from Blago's house... My 2012 tax bill where I live now in the far south suburbs was 4300. 2x the sq footage on 3x the lot size.... Then again Im 38 miles from my doorstep to the city limits. Crook County rips people off left and right. I got sick of it
