OP must hang around Northsiders and North Suburbanites, because Southsiders don't diss Indiana.

Nice too see low self esteem runs as rampant in Wisconsin as it does in Ohio.

PS I love Milwaukee.

Not in my experience, I worked in a trade that is 90% South Siders for 35 years and contempt for Hoosiers as "stupid f***ing Hillbillys" was common. When one guy moved from Bridgeport to Indiana a noted wit in the trade told him he raised the average IQ in two states.

I just told that to a woman in my office from Indiana, she spit her coffee out laughing.

She refers to Indiana as Indibama.

Could a famous poster who blindly over promotes Indy and takes needless and often humorously inaccurate pot-shots at IL be an influence here?

And isn't it interesting how the red-neck influence in Indiana is different than it is in MI which is different than it is in WI. IMO, WI has the smartest red-necks of all 3 states. Maybe because they understand how to speak a bit of FIB?

That poster just might be back in school today---high school, that is...busy plotting when he can make a legitmate run at the mayor's office...

If the poor citizens of Indianapolis ever knew what awaited them..

Around here, New Hampshire is often referred to as our redneck state..

I haven't had much experience with Indiana, and I probably never will. Looks like I'm not missing all that much..

There isn't much of interest there really. The woman in my office is from NW Indiana and her husband is from Indianapolis. Any time they have to go visit for the weekend or drop their kids off with family she complains to me.

Michigan, Illinois north of the Shelbyville Moraine and Wisconsin were settled mainly by New Englanders and New Yorkers, this after the Erie Canal opened. For various reasons these people bypassed Indiana and that state was settled much more by southerners crossing the Ohio, the way Illinois south of the Shelbyville Moraine was. So Indiana has a much stronger southern cultural influence than other Midwestern states.

I always had the impression that, north of Indy, Indiana was a typical midwestern state, with numerous descendents of Euorpean immigration ( esp German) living in the small cities and farming communities of this part of the state. South of Indy, and esp south of Bloomington, you had a mix of midwestern and southern..
