Good says it takes 30 minutes. What's the real timing from Addison/Boystown to Downtown?

It depends on when, but in my experience, the average time it takes to get from Addison to say River North is around 20 minutes, and then maybe another 3 minutes to get to the middle of the Loop. I guess it COULD take 30 minutes to the Loop if there were a bunch of people on it, it was slow moving, etc, but in my opinion it's more like 25 to the middle of the Loop on average, maybe even less.

As long as there are no derailments, 30 minutes or less.

20m on the Red Line. Don't bother taking the Brown Line unless you have an extra 20m and want to enjoy the views, that train is POKEY.

Nope, the brown line, red line and Purple line share the same elevated structure for part of the northside but as you go downtown the red line goes into the state street subway while the brown line twists it's way on elevated tracks into the loop sharing it's route\elevated structure with the Purple line.

Red line in terms of speed will be a tad faster becuase it is more a straight shoot and is in a subway but the brown line could get you closer to where you need to be depending on where you need to get on or off. Also the red line doesn't share it's subway tracks with any other route while the brown line rides on the loop and shares it's tracks with the Green, Pink, Orange and Purple line. The fastest train downtown is the Purple line when it goes to the loop due to it's very limited stops however the purple line does not stop at addison but does stop nearby at Belmont. However the Purple line only runs during Rush hour.
