Why do Chicagoans look down on Indianapolis, but not Milwaukee? It seems like most Chicagoans don't care one way or the other about Milwaukee, but they don't look down on it. This is just from my experience. They are basically the same city. Is it only because it is in Indiana?

I personally think that Mke is a more fun city than Indy, but I don't think people in Chicago look down on either. Most of the vitriol on this website came from a few posters. In real life, I don't think thoughts of Mke or Indy preoccupy most people in Chicago.

Well Miwaukee has no NFL team and the last time the Bears face the Colts it was so one sided that the sting still hurts...

I don't look down upon either, but Milwaukee seems more like a smaller version of Chicago to me. Indy is a nice little city, but much smaller and more rural - Little pink houses for you and me, yeah for you and me! j/k and yes I know he's from Seymour.

What have you heard that gives you the impression that Chicagoans look down upon these cities?

Well just when I was in college in Indiana, there were a lot of Chicago kids. They always put down Indy. Then there was a lot of negative comments about Indy as a city when we played the bears in the superbowl. IDK. just little comments people make about Indy that grew up in Chicago. It seems like people I've talked to are more open about moving to Milwaukee. Maybe because its more a part of the region.

I've always thought Indy was just kind of "small" though I have a coworker who moved from there 4 months ago to here and talks it up a little bit...

I've not noticed Chicagoans "looking down" on Indy more than Milwaukee. I'd say both are probably looked down on ever-so-slightly, but for the most part I don't think Chicagoans spend much time thinking about either. They might think about Milwaukee slightly more due to it being so much closer than Indianapolis, but I don't think that necessarily translates to a more favorable view.

I hear Detroit and (to a lesser extent) Cleveland being looked down on far more than either Indy or Mwke as far as major Midwestern cities go.

Indy is actually larger than Milwaukee, both in terms of city and metropolitan area.

Just a little chest thumping and home town spirit.

I've never lived in Indy, but always found the people there to be really nice. Especially in Zionsville where there must be something in the water because the people there were just way too nice...

I know this, and I never said anything about Milwaukee. I really don't spend much of any time thinking about either city to be honest with you. You can also be smaller but feel larger sometimes too, but that's another story.
