In this particular case, there were at least 5 people waiting to cross on both sides of the street. It's a school crossing in a school zone. There were kids, everywhere around the school, on the sidewalks etc. You would think drivers would be extra cautions around kids. Who am I kidding?

Chicago drivers respect no laws outside of solid red lights.

They had some of those on Elston at Grace, a pedestrian crossing that sees a lot of use when there's a show at the Abbey. They lasted about 4 to 5 days before the flags were all gone, and maybe about another week before the containers holding the flags were torn off the lamp posts they were mounted to. I'm surprised it took vandals that long to get the containers off.
I think when I was a teenager I would have preferred to get hit by a car than to use one of these things:

Pedestrian Crossing Flags | Chicago Ped Safety

Seriously, people should need a goddamned neon flag to cross the street? Ugh.

My favorites are the stop for pedestrian signs *in* the crosswalks, that have clearly been run over multiple times

Let me guess, you're talking about Lawrence Ave. in front of the Sears store?

Ha! The third picture in the slide show is Elston and Grace. I love how the picture is still there, as if the flags and containers haven't been gone for roughly a year now.

They don't respect red lights either, that's why we have all those damned red light cameras.

I'll add I was a huge skeptic & assumed they were just "revenue generating" tools, but they have made a huge difference at Belmont & Kedzie, which may get my vote as the most completely effed up intersection on the North Side in terms of visuals.

I swear that when you look straight you can see a combination of red and green lights much of the time, due to how they cycle the off-ramp traffic.

I called the 311 non emergency and they referred me to another number. Both me and a couple of other parents have called and complained. Hopefully other parents will too.
Here is the number

312-745-6150
If any of you live in the area and care about the matter.

Lol, if I'm walking with my son I go down to the light at Wolcott or Damen, depending on where I plan to go.

Pawar's office would be the place to concentrate on. With the changing of the Lawrence streetscape due the Mariano's going in, there should be some traffic calming features coming like are now being constructed between Damen and Western.

Feel free to PM me if you want more contact info. I know several folks at the school, LSC, and parent groups.
