When I log into my Ventra account to check my balance it always says $20. Maybe it'll deduct in a 24hr cycle? It could be a 'faulty' one where I may never have to load money again . . . .

Ventra says they'll be refunding the initial $5 fee 'through the end of 2013'. So what happens in 2014? They're just gonna charge the tourists an extra $5 for getting a card?

Did your Ventra card not show up? Well, this guy had the opposite problem. 100+ Ventra cards were in his mailbox, with more waiting for him at the post office:

Can anything be down right around here? This is exactly why I'm sticking w/ my disposable passes until they remove those card readers. Not going to deal w/ Ventra until they hold a metaphorical gun to my head and force me to.

ETA: I'm trying hard to remember if there was this much drama over in Boston when the CharlieCard and CharlieTicket first came out on the MBTA...

Has anyone actually received their card but not the "very important" e-mail with the temporary username/password? I called Ventra, and their automated message said to wait a few days to receive the e-mail, but I was under the impression that I ought to receive it before even getting the card...?

I didn't have any issues registering or using the ventra cards, but I bought a card for the wife and I from the machines in the stations. I have noticed that sometimes it takes a couple seconds before the scanner recognizes it when using it though. I really wish it paid for the Metra also.

But I thought you needed the temporary credentials that they send in an e-mail in order to register your new card when switching from the Chicago Card? I have my card, but no such e-mail with a temporary username and password, and it won't let me register the card I received in the mail without this information.

Ah, yeah I got the email first. They've been having all sorts of problems with the system. This is why testing is important before rolling out.

When I first got my card, I registered but my card didn't work. I went a week with it not working before a coworker said his fiance had the same thing happen. I ended up calling customer support and talking with a real person and she fixed everything for me. I'd suggest calling that ..

I got to use my Ventra card for the first time yesterday. I couldn't get it to work by slapping it onto the little touchscreen, so I took it over to a CTA employee, and he told me to tap it right at the front of the machine, instead of on the touchscreen which is maybe 6 inches further back. It took a couple of taps, but it definitely worked better in that area.

My husband was having trouble with his Ventra card being recognized, so he tried his old Chicago Plus card. It still works, despite the funds having already transferred to the Ventra card. Go figure.
