I used to get "sheet pizza" from DiLeo's bakery at Taylor and May; they'd cut a piece off with a pair of scissors. Pompei was similar as was the Mama Susi's pizza they used to sell in grocery stores.

Salerno's on 16th St. in Berwyn was noted for it's very thick and bready crust; man, the leftovers lasted a couple of days.

Makes me sad that even with 4 years at Ignatius, I don't think I checked out even a fraction of the old school joints.

Pat's, when it was on Sheffield, was our thin go-to for ages. Then Art of Pizza and Chicago's opened, and to the Carb Side I traveled. Did I mention I got an additional large stuffed pizza at Bacino's to take home? Wife thought that was over the top, but you wait until it's cooking in the oven.

One of my LT's here asked me, "Are you one of those Chicago pizza snobs." I told him jokingly that, "only barbarians eat thin crust pizza."

I love deep dish and when I lived in Louisiana and El Paso, I ordered it online and had it shipped to me. Wasn't cheap but sometimes you just get a craving.

The Supreme Court (well, Justice Scalia anyway), just ruled that Chicago deep dish is not "pizza".

I always considered it a casserole. If you can't fold it, it's not pizza.

Like we needed more proof he's a jag-off.

Milwaukee has a similar thin-crust pizza to what IrishTom29 is describing, and many people call it "bar pizza" there. It's always cut in to squares. I personally love this style of pizza when it's done well. But I don't think I've met a "style" of pizza that I haven't liked. Chicago-style, New York-style, New Haven-style, Neapolitan-style, Roma-style.... It's all good stuff as far as I'm concerned.

Amen to that Lookout.

But I gotta say the New Haven style at Piece is worlds better than the pizza I got at Sally's in New Haven, that was terrible. And my wife and I took a road trip to New Haven just to try it. The Sbarro's pizza on the Ohio Turnpike was much better.

Got it shipped on my birthday from my son in EGV. But it didn't taste as good as "being there."

Doesn't hurt when you're washing it down with some great beer...

Pizza is the only food I eat about once a week.
