Just curious if anyone knows much about the 4700 block of S Greenwood Ave in regards to crime. Planning on moving around there in the summer. Thanks.

Any special reason you are considering this area? You can look up crime with the Chicago Police web application.

It more "Kenwood" than Hyde Park and not really the nice "mansiony" part of Kenwood. If fact is not really all that convenient to anything in Hyde Park and even though it may technically be inside the area patroled by campus security the distance would be a negative...

It's not a bad area. It is in the Hyde Park vacinity but not in the midst of it all. This makes the area a little cheaper. I, myself am also looking to move in that area in the spring. Not bad at all. Hyde Park is overrated. I worked in the area for 2 years. It's overcrowded and expensive and the apartments are older and super small. Moving on the outskirts may be better because there are better apartments in the kenwood area. Good luck to you.

The apartment I'm considering is quite affordable for the upgrades. I also feel it's not too far from the 6 bus. I plan on working downtown but want to live a bit out of the way for a better, more affordable QOL. I have modern tastes in apartments so it's hard to find anything affordable near the downtown.

Technically that is Kenwood, not Hyde Park but it's not too far from Hyde Park. In my experience, the area isn't terrible, but yes you can look up crime statistics from the city and/or the police.

I agree with marothisu. The area isn't bad. I'd too would consider it if budget is my concern. Have you thought about somewhere closer to South Loop? Area Bridgeport, Bronzeville, or Chinatown? They are close to downtown and places can be quite reasonable and comfortable. Just a thought.

Hyde Park is a great neighborhood. It's not loud or anything, but there's more things going in there now. A good mixed community with some bright minds and such. The neighborhood is very protective of what goes up basically.

The transit on the train to the downtown/north side areas isn't amazing, but there's ways around it. The 55 bus runs all night (30 minute intervals maybe) along 55th St between the Garfield red line stop and Hyde Park. I think there's another bus that runs all night E-W too. Then there's some other buses that run kind of late night that go north like the #4
