Fulton Market has been the destination for developers and new businesses. Google is relocating it's operations from River North to the area. The area has startups laying down roots also. CTA opened the nicely built Morgan station for the Pink and Green line. Do you guys feel this is the next hip neighborhood.

For some stuff this area does work pretty well but there spots that really are lacking in greenery and shopping. The thing too is that while the Lake St El line looks awesome in a movie the reality is that is noisy, makes for terrible street deadzones / impossible parking issues on some blocks, and overall just lacks a lot of the charm of other areas -- I generally don't like Pilsen or Humbolt Park but given the choice of even the nicest "hard loft" conversions or a actual home that was built to house people and not industry it is easy choice for most folks. Especially in crummy weather the "adventure" of having some giant hard to hear warehouse loses lots of appeal...

The thing too is that unlike NYC where the artsy "club" scene makes some of the industrial spaces appealing the majority of money making night spots tend toward a much more "college town bar" formula...

If by 'hip' you mean relatively cheap and somewhat undiscovered, that ship sailed awhile ago . Chet is correct in his description of the smaller area; but it's part of the larger West Loop area which has been warm to hot for a few years. the Fulton Market area also has quite a few businesses that are doing quite well, but still risk losing their leases for 'the next big thing' . The irony is that some of these places supply the very industry that could force them out .

If by 'hip' you mean trendy and popular restaurants, a Marianos and soon to be Whole Foods, double parked Cayennes , a few clubs, and lots of Loftominiums and nearby high rises , Fulton Market is physically very close to 'all that' .

I've been staying in Greektown and drive thru the Fulton Market area fairly often. The writings been on the wall for a while now. Google moving will speed things up for sure.
