It's not a fair comparison, and those words are coming from a friend who was in Iraq fighting for 3 years. You have a city on one hand and then you have a warzone with soldiers who are trained in tactics wearing body armour who form tactical teams who are all armed and many times sitting in armoured vehicles and armoured buildings.

It's not even the same types of entities. You can't compare it unless you are a simpleton.

If the analogy must be drawn, perhaps you could loosely compare the Chicago police department to the US Army in Iraq (both are comprised of volunteer, trained professionals) and the civilian population of Chicago to the Iraqi population (both are mostly non-violent with small clusters of semi-organized violent gangs/milita who blend in with the general population.) How many CPD have died in the line of duty versus US Army soldiers?

There's 10,000 threads on this ****, and what needs to be done is more complicated. Anybody who thinks it's a 1 or 2 variable problem shouldn't even be talking about this. It doesn't get away from the fact that the homicide rate is half of what it was in the early 90s and the crime rate is the lowest since the early 70s.
