Hey, I have looked at old threads on here a lot, but I wanted to get some opinions about my specific situation.

I am from Indiana, but live in Los Angeles right now for Law School. I am moving back to Chicago in May. I am doing a fellowship downtown. I am looking for a place to live that fits me, but since I cant visit them in person I was looking for ideas.

I will have a roommate, so I am looking for a 2 bedroom. I dont mind commuting by train, but I will have a car. I am 33 and female. I like going out to good restaurants the most, or laid back bars that arent too rowdy.

I also have a large dog.

I'm looking to get as much as I can for as little as I can obviously, but would prefer to stay under around 1400 a month for a 2 bedroom.

What areas do you think I should start looking in?

For that budget and what you say, I'd try and look at areas like Ukrainian Village, Lincoln Square, Edgewater, Logan Square. I guess you could look at areas of Bridgeport, though it's a little sleepier but still some good stuff there. Depends on how far away for a commute you want to be and also, where downtown are you going to be? That may matter when you commute via public transit

For a 2 bedroom under $1400 - and a large dog----you might want to look at Rogers Park. Folks say there are many ethnic restaurants up in RP --- but overall not t sure if RP would satisfy your dining requirement. But - the rents are cheaper up that way, you'll get a nice sized 2 bedroom (essential if you have a room mate and need space) - and the lakefront is right there for you and your dog to exercise.

You're not far from Evanston - so you'll have pretty easy access to the options up that way. (Restaurants, laid back bars etc--) depends if you're willing to do some driving or CTA travel to your leisure activities.

I commute everyday from RP to the loop---it can get tiresome - but I read, do crosswords and use the time for some thinking time.
