Bridgeport is actually much closer to downtown than the OP currently is. (I assume he/she is referring to the Rogers Park campus of Loyola, not the downtown one, given the rent price currently being paid.)

But yes, you can get a studio or even a one bedroom for $750 in Bridgeport/McKinley and Pilsen, among other places. Not with electricity included, but your electric bill shouldn't be that high in a small apartment anyway unless you're trying to keep it ice cold all summer long.

Berwyn (electric probably not included), unless you're dead set on living in the city.

Bridgeport/Pilsen would be the best bet closest to downtown which i think is safe enough and has decent restaurants and access to CTA/expressways....on the northside you will have to look around Uptown/Edgewater for that type of rent and access to CTA. I am taking safety into consideration as well as overall quality of living in an area.

Another area you might be able to find a studio/1-bed in is Tri-Taylor (just west of Little Italy)...very underrated neighbhorhood. Its close to medical destrict/UIC and easy access to the city. Its also relatively safe and very affordable.

I just spoke with a real estate company in Hyde Park in which they had studios available for $750.00. I literally talked to them last week. If you want, I can give you the information.

Can it even be called a studio apartment when it has no stove or kitchen sink? That's more like an SRO, isn't it?

For $560, with utilities included, that's a great deal...unless you can't live without a stove. Nice view, too..

In this instance, having no stove would not be a dealbreaker for me. You can do almost anything with a microwave these days...

I would think most people could live without Lincoln Park a lot more easily than they could live without a stove or a place to wash dishes. That's only a "great deal" if you care more about location than you do about living like a human being. I'd end up spending so much eating out that it would be cheaper to just get a real apartment.

Sure. And Bathtub Dish Washing is highly underrated as a form of post-nuked-dinner evening entertainment.
