Hi, I'm from out of state and heading abroad permanently. And of course just before I fly out I got a red light flash in downtown Chicago. That in itself is not a problem, but my registered address out of state is no longer my home. It was sold last week. I have no address in the states. The ticket is always mailed right? So it'll be mailed to the new home owners while I'm abroad.

So this ticket is going to increase continually, until I hopefully get my hands on the paperwork ticket and pay it online. It could be months before the new homeowners send it to me abroad (using a prepaid envelope I left with them).

Has anyone got hold of their ticket number before seeing the paperwork ticket? It's a long shot. But if I can get it online somewhere I can pay it off before it gets out of hand.

Any advice gratefully received.

You can get ticket info online (and pay it online too) using the plate number and the last name of the car's registered owner.

Though if you're moving overseas permanently I'm not sure why you'd bother.

The fine doesn't go up indefinitely; it's capped at $244 ($100 for the original fine, then it doubles if you don't pay by the due date, then eventually a $44 collection fee.)

If you're leaving the country permanently, I would personally ignore it.
