Chicago is a place I am considering moving to down the road after I finish school in California; I have family there and the city has always intrigued me. I was wondering, is it better for Chicagoans to take a plane to go to a different state to enjoy nature. Do they drive somewhere local for nature? Are the public parks good enough for a nature fix. Basically, I'm wondering where do you go to get your nature fix?

You're welcome

Seriously, people do each of those things for a nature fix.

Without leaving the immediate city/county: local parks and the parks along the lake; the forest preserve

Within a day trip but not leaving the state: Starved Rock state park or Galena/the Driftless area

Weekend but not leaving the region: Wisconsin or Michigan and, sometimes, down to S. IL and the Shawnee

Of course, if you are willing to take a flight, you can basically go anywhere.

Quick fix at the many parks and bike trails
Not as quick fix at Starved Rock, Indiana Dunes, Kettle Moraine South, or Galena area...maybe Door County
A true beach or mountain=vacation in another state

Oh ok cool, yeah I am kind of spoiled in California as far as the nature thing and just wanted to get an idea of what I would do to be around nature in Chicago.
