With Quinn pushing for the permanent temporary income tax increase and Madigan pushing for the millionaires tax, where does it stop?

Will the Democrats be out of office in the next election cycle because of this or do they have too strong a grip on the unions to lose?

Also, why do they keep justifying every single tax increase with "it's for the kids, it's for education". If that's the case, IL will have the smartest kids in the world some day.

Quinn is actually trying to permanently raise the income tax as well as raise property taxes. His $500 rebate is BS. He also wants to end one of the exemptions which would be a net increase in the property taxes. The 5% income tax was supposed to be a temporary emergency measure to stabilize the state and give the legislature enough time to deal with the budget issues.

This has become a recurring theme with Democrats. They refuse to cut spending and just grab more and more taxes from the citizens untill everyone flees, the place collapses, or the people finally revolt and through their butts out of office.

The question is what will the people of Illinois do this time. Will we go down the same path as California or Michigan previously or take the path of Wisconsin. I will definately be voting straight republican in this and every election for the rest of my life and if the people of this state continue to empower these imbeciles I will flee.

California? You mean how it has a $4.2 billion dollar surplus this year?

with up to 9% sales tax, and an income tax that tops out at 12.3%, and very high property taxes as well.

Taxes suck, but what is the alternative? We - the citizens of this state - have all been kicking this can down the road via our elected representatives, and for decades.

The piper eventually has to be paid. At least Quinn isn't blowing the usual smoke up our collective behind about we can lower taxes while also digging ourselves out of a budget hole that goes halfway to China. Doesn't work like that.

But he lied. He said that the state income tax had to go up to 5%, but he sold it on the grounds that it would only be temporary. And now he's working to undo that and will probably support Madigan's tax for anyone making over a million.

ETA: The alternative would be to heavily cut spending. He got his tax increase (so economic conservatives had to give in on something), now it's his turn to drastically cut spending. Of course, I won't hold my breath.

Polls show that Illinoisans want the income tax increase to expire, but they also don't want to cut services. Kinda hard to reconcile those two desires.

Who's dumber, the liar or the millions of mathematically-challenged goobs in this state that can't balance a checkbook and think a magical fairy from the GOP will fix everything?

Forget the idea we can tighten our belt out of this one, it's ridiculous. The pensions are contractual obligations, the state should have been paying its share for decades, terrible decisions, not Quinn's fault he inherited it. Remember that he only became Governor because the Democratic establishment was content keeping a lid on him as Lt Governor, and they were too stupid to see Blago's downfall coming.

Here are the basic facts:

Illinois | Tax Foundation

The sky isn't falling. And reneging on the pensions will work about as well as reneging on our bond debt.

Luckily Illinois ranks 37th for personal income tax by state, at least according to this:

We rank number 1 for sales taxes in Cook co, top 5 for property taxes, and we are above average for income. BTW the list you posted was from 2002 before the dummycraps finished Fing over the state.
