So, I hereby apologise to the all members of the thought police.

Pretty soon you young people won't be able to use any words at all and will have to go around just pointing at things and grunting.
Oh, stop it. You know better than that.

And if you don't, then you should.

When you say "KKK" , people will NOT think of Kankakee, IL. To think otherwise would be wildy naive and ridiculous.

Drive on a Sunday, the expressways are less congested.

Take Lake Shore Drive south to the expressway that will take you to Kankakee, but go when there is less traffic, because there will be traffic, the only way to avoid it is to drive it when there is no rush hour,,,, since rush hour is pretty much all the time, you have to find out the least crowded, which is sunday.

other than that, i dont know any other way to save crowdednss.

Sometimes I try to find a street that I drive on rather than the expressway, because I dont like traffic, but the only one i can think of is The Dixie Highway (Western Ave all the way south when you got outta chicago).

why dont you do a Google Map search, and pick the thing where it says "no tollways" and "no highways" , it will give you various routes that are not highways or tollways. You will get the highways that might be better for you than the expressway or tollways. I see one that says Route 45 which goes thru Orland Park, (which also would come from chicago).. all the way to Kankakee.

If you are worried about driving on crowded roads then perhaps you shouldn't be driving.

From my experience the "worst" part of I-57 is where it meets the Dan Ryan. After that, it's smooth sailing.

If you want to stick to surface routes instead of the expressways, take Illinois 50 (Cicero Ave.) down to US 30 (Lincoln Highway) in Matteson and then go west on 30 until you get to I-57 South which is about 1/4 of a mile away. It takes longer, but it's all smooth driving and not much traffic once you get south of Midway.

The Klan originated in the South during Reconstruction in the 1860-70s. The second iteration in the teens and twenties had its origins in anti-immigration and the related anti-antisemitism and anti-Catholic fears related to immigration among the Protestant population, as well as racism against African-Americans. That version of the Klan was enormously popular in the Midwest particularly in Indiana. The third version grew in the South in the 50s and 60s in response to desegregation.

This is excellent advice under normal circumstances, but my thought is, if the OP wants to drive slow, then rush hour is the perfect time to make the trip, since the freeway will be moving at a crawl then.
