Now that spring is finally limping and wheezing into the Chicago area, I figure it's a good time to talk about Chicago parks. What are some good outdoor spaces to walk around, have a picnic and just generally relax?

I'll start us off with Palmisano Park at 31st and Halsted. It has free, easy parking, and the central hill is unusually tall for Chicago, which gives you a great Southside skyline view over the expressway. When I was there I saw a good mix of people from all age groups and demographics. Kids flying kites, big Latino families on outings, older folks, etc. There was also a twentysomething couple making out on a blanket and drinking wine from a paper bag; this is a fine place for that sort of activity in my opinion.

When it warms up a little more I plan to grab a gigantic Italian beef sandwich and lemon ice from Fabulous Freddie's, then have myself a picnic at Palmisano Park. Any other park recs?

McKinley Park is nice.

Going to the "Movies in the Park" events introduced me to a lot of good parks. One of the best things to do in the summer.

I recently moved into Lakeshore East during the Winter months and am looking forward to what the Lakeshore East Park is like during the warmer months of the year.

I grew up in Bridgeport (went back to my parents house and actually feasted on Freddie's Saturday) so I know what you're talking about. Spent a lot of my childhood by Donovan and McGuane.

I really like Humboldt Park. Portage Park too, there is something really nice about that park. Nothing special about it, but just a real nice place.

I grew up right by Warren Park. It is still my favorite.

Burnham Park is my favorite. You can do the skateboard pit, walk, picnic, ride a bike, play tennis or whatever. Relatively quiet and remote.

Very small park, but I love the feel that Mariano "Park" has in the summertime - aka this is the Viagra Triangle. Also same sort of thing a little bit south of there in Connors Park.

As far as neighborhood parks go (assuming that means you're not counting the big ones like Grant, Millennium, or Lincoln), it's pretty tough to beat McKinley Park, IMO.
