Who are the other famous architects that impacted the Chicago landscape?

Did you know his name was Frank Lincoln Wright before he changed it.

Zook was part of the arts and craft period. Correct?

William LeBaron Jenney pioneered steel frame skyscaper construction, which was later improved upon by Louis Sullivan and Daniel Burnham. The "Chicago School" of architecture is largely considered the beginning of architectural modernism, and inspired the European architects (Mies, Le Corbusier) who made it famous. Then Mies moved here to avoid Hitler after the Bauhaus was shut down by the Nazis, and became a Chicago architect himself.

Big firms in Chicago that are doing good work in Chicago include Skidmore Owings and Merrill and Perkins and Will (though both are inconsistent). Helmut Jahn is perhaps our only really famous "Star-chitect". Current lesser-known archtitects/firms who are getting recognition in Chicago are Krueck and Sexton, Jeanne Gang, Joe Valerio, Brininstool and Lynch, Urban Lab, Doug Garafalo, John Ronan, and many others.

Can't forget Daniel Burnham or his partner John Root who formed Burnham + Root. Look at the Rookery in the Loop for a good surviving example. Root also designed the Union Stockyard Gate, designated a national historic site. These are the architects responsible for the World's Fair in the early 1890's, as well, which arguably put Chicago on the map (though Root died early in the process). Both were relatively classically inspired.

There was also Louis Sullivan, who was somewhat less well-known in his time but is a much bigger impact on modern architecture. He was a mentor of Frank Lloyd Wright's, and some even credit him with the creation of the modern skscraper.

I think you don't hear much about the "Chicago 7" (not the ones from 1968) because they are mostly dead or past their prime. Weese is getting a lot of recognition these days. Stanley Tigerman is still the social coordinator for big architectural events in Chicago, but he's known for being "difficult" and his architecture is terrible! Booth Hansen is just another corporate firm now.
