Chicago has 'NOTHING' to make it worth living/dying there!

I wouldn't count the weekend as starting at 1:45 pm on Friday, even if they are working "summer hours"

All of these shootings took place in specific neighborhoods where gang violence is frequent. The one in Rogers park was in the 1900 block of West Howard. Unfortunately, the young man who was shot though may have been an innocent bystander. He had just graduated from ETHS.

Chicago shootings violence: Teen killed in Rogers Park - Chicago Tribune

Of course, it's not just Chicago that has shootings. In Las Vegas, two police officers were ambushed by White Power nuts who also killed innocent bystanders in Walmart. In Houston, police are looking for the man who shot three people in an argument between neighbors. In Myrtle Beach, SC, three people died and 4 were injured in a shooting at the Bermuda Sands Hotel. In Seattle, there was a shooting and stabbing at Seattle Pacific University. One victim died and 4 were injured. It could have been worst if the students who were present had not stepped in.

FWIW, 4 dead over a weekend in the summer time is probably about average or even a little below average historically when you consider the past few years. A decade ago it was a lot higher.

i_love_autumn, you do realize that nearly all of your urban areas in Ohio have higher violent crime rates than Chicago, right? With the exception of Columbus, which saw most of its development long after the creations of northern urban ghettos...

But 30 people shot... pretty crazy. I wonder what the best way is to explain the violence in Chicago? Is it that we have more gangs than other cities (like NYC)? NYC is larger, but does Chicago have a greater percentage of poverty-stricken areas? Perhaps in better words, more neighborhoods that are prone to gang culture?

I've read that Chicago busted up the large gangs, leaving a power vacuum. There are many smaller gangs vying for turf, leading to more violence.

Yes, demographic differences are a big part of it. But they have also been more open to new policing strategies over the years, whereas our police force is stuck in the past and less likely to accept change.
