Ok so in a few days, I will have lived here for 3 years and I have yet to find a good, shaved ice snowcone. Any recommendations? All I can find are snowcone a with the beady, crappy ice. I'm seriously considering looking into opening a stand for next summer because I haven't found any good places.

Good luck applying-for and receiving a permit from the City of Chicago to do that.

You can find such vendors in the several largely Mexican communities in the city: Pilsen - try Ashland Ave. & 18th St., and W. on 18th St. to Damen/Western; Little Village - 26th St.; Rogers Park - Pottawatomie Park on Rogers Ave. W of Clark Street ... to name just three locations.

I've been to several of the Hispanic neighborhoods and while I have found snowcones, they aren't the shaved ice that was so common at Texas snowcone stands.

Italian Ice is way more popular here than snowcones are.

I love Miko's Italian Ice. Still craving a snowcone with a scoop of ice cream in the bottom though...
