I'm considering moving there and am interested to hear what it's like from anyone in the area. Thank you. :-)

The loss of industrial and warehouse jobs is hitting Brighton Park very hard. It once was a solidly blue collar area with lots of eastern Europeans that mostly liked low and order. Although it remains in the bottom half of city neighbors in most crime categories the per capita income of about $13k (roughly half of the city average ...) is troubling.

I suppose if you are priced out of other city neighborhoods and need to live inside 606xx for employment there are worse choices, but you could do a lot better for probably the same money living in other areas...

I think an interesting thing in Brighton Park is a demographic along the northern part of it adjacent to I-55. Some of the tracts there have a fair Asian percentage now. But yeah - working class, pretty cheap, fairly quiet, some crime but nothing overly dangerous.

Very cheap housing. Very quiet. If you're from a small town or a quiet suburb, then it wont be a problem. Depending on exactly where you are considering, you'll have access to the Orange line. Not a lot of dining options outside of taquerias or fast food joints. But i'm assuming that if you are looking to live there you aren't looking for a very active nightlife. Crime is very low. There is gang activity here and there but nothing that will affect your daily life. You also wont get muggings or break ins like you do in more popular areas of the city.

Check out McKinley Park just east of it. It's still cheap but much safer. This not a 'hood I'd live in unless I was totally desperate.
