About a year ago I bought a "4D" (3D plus time) puzzle of Chicago. It came with small plastic buildings so you could "watch Chicago develop". Though I didn't recognize it at the time, for the "future time" building they included ... the Chicago Spire!

Chicago Spire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I think it looks too cartoonish and is all wrong for Chicago. It doesn't fit in well with the rest of the skyline.

Interesting article:

What's Next for Santiago Calatrava's Troubled Chicago Spire? - Curbed Features - Curbed Chicago

Regarding the current design:

Quote:
While this was the last official redesign, Antony Wood, Executive Director of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitats, can't conceive of the Spire's being built—if it is indeed built—without the team heading back to the drawing board yet again. "There's no way they're going to pick up a building that was designed 10 years ago and continue on that way," he told me, citing major changes in the market. While the Spire was conceived during the condo boom, the understandably conservative trend is now in rentals.
I liked the first incarnation the best. I'm not sure if it was the antenna or what, but it seemed to fit into the skyline a little better.

maybe Trump Tower proves me wrong, but I just can't conceive of a top-of-the-line condo way in the sky with massive square footage…..but no balcony to walk out on. again, I don't know how Trump got away without them, but I think not having them on the potential Spire would be a negative for sales. The ability to walk outside from your unit is huge, I would think.
