I think a lot of people nowadays just go to parades to wild out. That is the prime directive. It could be the AARP parade for all they care. The interesting thing is that it is just expected at sports events. The Red Sox won the World Series when I lived there and people were setting cars on fire. Hockey fans went into full on smash the state riot mode in Vancouver one year. Same in MN this past winter. That's just fun and games. However, if some rowdy rednecks invade Gay Pride the city needs to think about What Should Be Done.

On top of the shooting along Belmont last weekend, another two shot on the lakefront at Belmont this weekend, a guy murdered on Montrose in Uptown, and a guy stabbed outside Wrigley. Apparently all this is tied to the latin kings, who decided to hang out in the area.

Another 7 people robbed around belmont and halsted the past 2 nights....unrelated.

Yeah, there was some cholos hanging around on Cannon Drive just outside the Diversey Harbor yelling at and kicking passing cars on Saturday night. Good times in East Lakeview.

The weekend totals are just staggering. Maybe what Chicago needs is a nice, long controllable stream of steady rain to keep the "participants" indoors for a bit..

My straight friends and I used to attend the parade because it was an excuse to party and great people watching. You could walk around with open containers and as long as you weren't acting like a knucklehead, the cops were cool.

You can still do this, for the most part. The cops "cracked down" and the number of drinking citations went from tens to hundreds, but it's still minuscule once you remember that there were more than a million people at the parade. I watched the parade from around Waveland and Halsted this year, and it seemed like at least half of the people around me were drinking. There were cops all around us, and none of them seemed to care unless you were acting like an idiot. It got to the point my friends and I ended up running out and buying a few beers of our own.

When two rival gangs hang out near each other - won't be extremely good most of the time. I know the shooting that happened along Lake Shore Drive was gang related, didn't hear about the others but yeah - not good!

I have seen , especially this year, as a thing to do. When I went running and everyone was coming back through the lakefront I was really appalled. It's one thing to celebrate, it's another to have " who could have least amount of clothes". It's sad what I saw " maybe it was the location, but i was embarrassed how most of these girls looked and acted.

Was it suppose to be humble yet subtly sophisticated? I mean, it is a parade celebrating fringe sexual preferences after all.
