Looking for a friend.
Plan to move to the States by next year and thought I could make some friends before that.

Do message me directly.

Moderator edit, 07-07-2014. OP asked me to add this information for clarification:

Well I'm planning to move to the US in Chicago to be exact, but kinda have no idea about it and thought i'd make some friends before I migrate there. Someone who could show me the ropes and provide information bout properties and whatnot.

Is it that easy to make friends in Malaysia?

If this topic is real, best wishes. Prepare to be alone, at least for a while.

In my experience it's very difficult to make friends. The last real life friend I made was 23 years ago.

Depends on where you are going.
Big cities are harder to make new friends.

Like the previous user said, in big cities it's harder to make new friends. I have to admit, making friends is difficult anywhere, but it's getting better than what it used to be. People are slowly starting to get more open towards others. I don't know your age, so I just can tell you that you could find friends at school and/or at work. Or else, you could take some classes in a topic you are interested in! You could make some friends (that are interested in that, as well) with it

It's actually easier to make friends in a big city. In small towns/rural areas everyone is settled down with families and generally don't want to be bothered. In the big city you have lots of young and single people looking for the same things you are.

once you make the move, start joining things. Real friendships will follow. That's the way to do it.......

I see a mention of Malaysia - are you from Malaysia, OP? If you are here by Merdeka Day, they usually have a celebration in the suburbs. I went last year and it was pretty good and you can meet other Malaysians there. I am friends with a handful (my ex girlfriend is from PJ).

Thank you all for replying. Appreciate it.

Yes I am from Malaysia. Planning to move within Chicago city radius because going to be working in the city. Just thought I could get some advice here on which area is recommended for expats, places to go to meet people and whatnot.

Apart from that, any advice on where I could find areas with real good town homes in a safe neighborhood as I am looking for one to buy. I have a lot of research to do before I go there.

Oh and I'm 28.

Where in Malaysia are you from? I was there last year - loved it. Best food I've had of any country I've ever been to.

For Chicago - what is your monthly budget for rent? That will help determine where you may live first and foremost.
