The most tourist friendly area is Hyde Park which is where the University of Chicago is. The Museum of Science and Industry is there, which is the largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere. Near there is also the Oriental Institute, which is a museum dedicated to the Ancient Near East (i.e. middle east), Persia, and Egypt. Near there is also the SMART Museum of Art and the Renaissance Society which is more of a modern art thing. Renaissance Society and Oriental Institute for what they are, are actually some of the earliest organizations of that type in the US. I think the only one of them that costs money is MSI - the others I mentioned are free. Also, there is a Frank Lloyd Wright house, the Robie House, I think next to the Oriental Institute you can probably take a tour of.

Museum of Science and Industry is in Jackson Park, which held the 1893 World's Fair. Quite a nice park and of course the lakefront on the north and side south has an 18 mile bike/foot path that also connects multiple beaches and parks.

A little closer to downtown on the south side is also Chinatown which is nice for a few hours to visit. Just take the Red Line to the Chinatown stop and there you are. There's also some stuff for African American history in the Bronzeville area.

Besides that, there's not tons on the south side for a tourist, but if you're a big time foodie then there's some good eating in other neighborhoods too.

Where would be somewhere to go in that is air conditioned and also has good views outside? Or inside?

Any free museums or something like that around cloud gate?

My favorite bathrooms are McDonalds, Wendy's, Culvers, Burger King, etc. You can usually use a fairly clean bathroom and if necessary buy a soft drink or bottle of water and no one can b&tch. Starbucks may be good too. I actually keep an app on my phone where I can find these in case nature calls. TMI, I know.

Why the **** would you not carry a wallet around? You have some seriously odd questions. Free water, find a drinking fountain somewhere? I don't know. You could probably go into a fast food place like McDonald's, Subway, Starbucks, etc and convince them to give you a water cup.

Is there actually an app that tells you where the cleanest public restrooms in the city are? That is awesome.

Seems weird to be driving into a hotel downtown but not have a wallet or water.
That said, you can get a free glass of water at Intelligentsia Coffee on Randolph, near the bean.

The bean is actually full of fresh clean drinking water. If you can find the spicket, you're good to go.
