I thought it was clear that I was using hypothetical numbers to illustrate my point, not actual average weekend data (or actual data at all, for that matter). If it wasn't clear, it should be now. There aren't 50 shootings any given weekend in Chicago, either. I just used 50 as an example of a large, attention-grabbing number and 4 as one example of a small, non-attention-grabbing number that isn't going to be in a headline.

I'm extremely critical of Chicago's faults, actually. You'd know that if you had read many of my posts. I'm also critical of falsehoods and misrepresentations, such as the view that violent crime is getting worse when it's actually getting better.

Your hypotheticals should be equatable, and they're not. 50 shootings in Chicago over a week/weekend is somewhat commonplace. 4 in Waukegan, 2 in Oak Park, etc. is not.

I have seen a lot people say that Chicago's violent crime is appalling, but I have never seen anyone claiming that it getting worse.

What I have seen is you claim that suburban violent crimes have been on the rise. Care to back that up with some data?

I wouldn't. And didn't. I listed hypothetical numbers for hypothetical suburbs, when criticizing the way media reports violence. Even if Waukegan did have four shootings in a weekend (and surely it has at some point or another) I wouldn't classify it as "dangerous". Four out of 88,000 people is nothing. Same if Oak Park had two or Chicago had 50, both of which I listed as hypotheticals in the same post.

No one comes out and states it directly, because that would be flat-out lying and it would be easy to call them out on it. Instead they paint the picture by increasing coverage of violence while the actual violence is decreasing.

Again, never seen it... even implied.

You might want to re-read what I said. I didn't claim that "suburban violent crimes have been on the rise." I said that shootings happen in the suburbs, and are on the rise in SOME suburbs-- specifically the poor suburbs where the poverty and violence displaced by urban gentrification has relocated. This is common knowledge and should surprise no one who is paying even a little bit of attention.

I don't really care to spend my time doing google searches that you could easily do yourself, but here are just a few things I found quite easily:

South suburbs such as Riverdale see more crime as Chicago crime rate drops | abc7chicago.com

My advice to you:

1. Go back and finish high school.
2. Maybe even go to college. I'd suggest a graduate degree, but let's be realistic here first.
3. In the process of doing so, learn what "hypothetical" means. Maybe even learn some critical thinking skills, logic, statistics, and research methods.
4. Come back when you have that knowledge and something to contribute here. Until then, I have nothing further to say to you.
5. Oh, also learn how to Google so others don't have to do it for you.
