More tourist will flock to River North area? More restaurants, bars, lounges, clubs and shops will open up there? As the result, value of condos in River North will go up?

I don't know about CONDO prices, but rental prices around downtown have been steadily rising for awhile and will continue to do so. I'm 99.8% sure condos are following a similar story of increasing values.

Also, this article is about a proposal to light the river walk. They only recently started accepting bids but there's nothing that's been made public about which firms want to do what. It's all up in the air. However, the actual riverwalk extension is a completely different project than this which has been under construction for the land handful of months. I'm sure it will contribute a little to rising prices *if* it's successful in what they want.

Oh I see, so you were talking about this on going project.

Here Now, 37 Images of the Riverwalk's Extreme Makeover - Construction Watch - Curbed Chicago

Condo prices in River North is already on the rise. a 2beds/2baths price was $260k 2.5 years ago. Now it is at least $480k.

Does the city have funding to complete the project? I can see young professionals will want to live in the area once the project is complete and more restaurants/bars/clubs open along side the river walk.

^ Yep, that's what I'm talking about. I'm pretty sure it's completely or mostly funded. $100M. Then there's also Maggie Daley Park currently being constructed next to Millennium Park.

the one making the Merchandise Mart into a billboard looks tacky.

I've lived in a building facing the Wrigley Bldg, and it never shined too brightly in my window, because it was uplit (shined upwards rather than outwards toward the condos). They seemed to dim it at night, so if they could make it so that these lights will not shine too brightly into the condos then it might be ok. although I think it looks more like Las Vegas than Times Square, NY.

I do not know if I like the way the lights are in the Chicago River there. I did think the yellow lights shining in the Chicago River look very pretty at night, not sure what these multi colors will look like.

And people were complaining about Trump Tower and the name TRUMP being tacky... it will probably reflect the colors of the river on it, since the face of Trump is glass. The tower I mean.
