Defenders of Chicago will love this bit of research from Pew:
Despite recent shootings, Chicago nowhere near U.S. ‘murder capital’ | Pew Research Center

Does anybody disagree with the approach or want to contest Pew?

Safe is a relative term, and relative to other big cities, Chicago sure seems safe. Do you still think Chicago is unsafe?

That's right, Chicago is moderately safe by the standards of big U.S. cities.

Pew does good analysis.

This isn't news to anyone who's been paying the slightest bit of attention, but it's still appreciated that groups like Pew and Real Clear Politics have tried to correct some of the media misinformation hype.

Here is another interesting list. Given the "slicing and dicing" it appears Chicago is the largest distinct city with greatest level of poverty. Perhaps if there was a way to separate the well-off parts of Chicago's near-to-the-lake northside areas that attract recent college grads and are mostly unaffected by the kinds of gun play that plaques the vast stretches of proverty stricken areas the levels of death-by-gunshot would right up there with New Orleans, Flint and Detroit... Actually New York is a "distinct city" and has a higher poverty rate and is larger. It's 65th and Chicago is 83rd.

The list includes Bronx & Brooklyn...

Try to spin it however you want to, but Chicago is the place making nightly headlines for its extreme violence.

Yep! Yet, other cities with extreme violence are not. Why is that?

There's no spinning the fact that even with all the shootings, Chicago still isn't the most violent or most dangerous city.

It's far more dangerous than say, Palm Harbor Florida. I love when people make excuses for the crime, rather than admitting they live in a high crime area.....with lots of gang violence and murders.
