Where are the best places to see Chicago's full skyline? Not just the tourist places like the planetarium, other places farther away. places where you might randomly look up and say "dang you can see Chicago from here? one example could be from Indiana Dunes state park
http://chicagocamping.org/wp-content...go-skyline.jpg
it is best if the places you include are in the Suburbs, or places far away from downtown. another example is the Greene Valey Hill in DuPage County

At the Horseshoe Hammond (Casino) along Indianapolis just over the border, you go to the Venue (buffet) well, there is a patio outside, you can go out there (I think you may have to buy a meal) anyway, wow that's a fabulous view of Chicago skyline, and right there is a boat dock and it makes you feel like your somewhere else on the east coast! Beautiful view.

To take one of the boat rides from Navy Pier, they go out past the breakwaters, for about 3 hours they cruise along the lakefront, wow that's a beautiful feeling. its like $35 and you get a meal. feels so nice out there on the water. You can go on the various levels of them.

Palm Restaurant on 300 block of East Wacker Dr - you can go to the restaurant, up to the top floor and if you go at night, the Chicago river sparkles golden, its beautiful. Daytime you get a cool view.

those are my top picks. Done all of them

For a different perspective , take the water taxi from Madison and the west bank of the river south to Chinatown in the late afternoon .. spend a while down in Chinatown, and catch the taxi back close to sunset .. you can get a different perspective on the skyline as it transitions from day to night , as well as the sunset view against the west wall of downtown . I think it's 5.00 each way . There's also some interesting former industrial sights to see along the way .

Just flying into O'Hare. When the plane skirts the shoreline then cuts west over the city give a awesome view from the air. A boat ride into Lake Michigan in summer should be a must for any tourist to view the Skyline. That constantly changes as you move along the harbor.

Drive in to Chicago down the Ike on a sunny day close to sundown. The downtown looks all lit up and the reflection is silhouetted like Oz. I also love the views from south Lake Shore Drive and from the Stevenson at around Ashland.

Or, stand on top of the basic oxygen furnace at the continuous casting rolling mill at Mittel Steel in East Chicago. You can see the whole downtown but the view is certainly not open to everyone.
