Wow,

Now they have a program where a person can study a whole semester of comedy and receive college credit. I would like to do this. It's probably not practical, though, considering I'm in a substantial amount of financial aid debt. I wish I would have known about all of this as an undergraduate. Improvisational comedy would have gone well with my major. As it stands, though, I would still love to try it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Here's the link: Comedy Studies : About the Program

Don't know much about it, but I've had professional co-workers who have taken classes at SC, they seemed to have a grreat experience there.

Everything I've heard about it says that it's a great place to go. I'm just wondering how to get there. I'm going to graduate with a master's degree (and too much debt) this year. Then, I'll be tasked with finding a job of some kind. I wish I would have majored in fine arts at a Chicago school when I was an undergrad, though. I just didn't know about this program!

To attend this program I would need to (a) start saving some money, (b) find a good job that would actually allow me to save money, (c) find a decent apartment, (d) find a way to pay tuition costs, (e) find transportation to and from the place. Right now, I work as a substitute teacher, and the pay rate is ridiculously low. I really want to do this, but I need some kind of really good plan to get out of debt and start earning money first. I thought I might try to get into the Columbia College of Chicago Arts, pursue a second bachelor's degree, and depend on financial aid (hopefully scholarships) to fund most of my education. I'm nearly thirty, though, so I really do need to start something that will help me give back.

I'm still really interested in this, though, because I would be a different person around the teens I work with if I could just do some acting and maybe show them that I have a biting sense of humor.

Well, I might be able to sign up for one of their three day intensives. It would mean that I would just need to find a hotel room or hostel instead of having to move to Chicago. That seems doable. Everything included, it probably would not put me back more than $1000. That may be doable, if I try very hard to save money.
