Does anyone have children attending a Montessori school in these areas? We are considering enrolling our 3 yo this fall in Rogers Park Montessori or Chicago Montessori (on Cullom). Any input or suggestions would be appreciated.

Default Toured Both Schools

We were also looking for a Montessori experience for our child and we toured both schools you mention. I thought I would love RPM because of the beautiful facility and surrounding area. We also lived 3 blocks over, so it was incredibly close. When we went on the tour, though, it rubbed us the wrong way. It seemed overly precious and the tour guide barely registered our questions--she seemed preoccupied or snooty. We were bummed. We ultimately decided to rule out Chicago Montessori (half a block from my work) for other, more personal reasons.

However, we are thrilled at where we ended up: Home - Pilgrim School

It's a warm and values-based community of families and experienced Pre-K-8 educators. The early childhood curriculum is play-based and follows a lot of the same tenets as Montessori. It's also on Cullom (at Damen) and for the location, price, and vibe, we found it to be a wonderfully surprising hidden gem. It is Lutheran-based, but at least 1/3 of the families there are not religious. We actually found it on a list of the best religious schools for non-religious families and that settled our worries about diversity of values.

Our child has been there for 3 years now and we've loved that the class sizes are small (50% of CPS class sizes). He is crazy about his school and even though we moved a bit further away this past year, he looks forward to every day so much that we wouldn't think of moving him to another school. Also, we've since met several families who transferred to Pilgrim from Rogers Park Montessori because of that same snooty feeling and their kids are flourishing at Pilgrim. We also love the affordable and enriching full-day options since we both work 9-5.

Good luck!
