If I had to guess... the OP is another 20-something who got a job out in the 'burbs, wanted to live where all the action is, thought they could hack the commute, and is on the verge of waving the surrender flag. Been there, done that, moved to Andersonville when the ex got a job in Shaumburg, would never recommend it to anyone else as it eventually became a significant source of stress for both of us. Which is why I try to dissuade the constant stream of "I just graduated and got a job in Schaumburg/Hoffman/Deerfield/wherever and want to live in Lakeview/Lincoln Park" folks who post here from moving there. "But I can tolerate the commute...." Sure, for 2 to 3 years tops. Then you're ready to kill people.
Somewhat accurate...i actually lived in the burbs for years until i moved in with my girlfriend. We have a condo right now so not looking to move anytime soon as she works downtown too. Otherwise I'd probably live in Carol stream or lombard.

In that case... it probably won't be too long before you're looking for another job location. (If you aren't already.)

The fact that she works downtown is not a compelling reason to tie you to stay at your current location. It's much easier to commute to downtown from anywhere close to an L or Metra line than it is to commute from a lake shore neighborhood out to the 'burbs. But I suppose that's moot if you're tied to a condo for a while. And becoming a landlord until it sells is, on balance, probably just as much or more of a headache as commuting from Lakeview to Schaumburg.

So glad I didn't do that -- when I moved here I got offered a job in a far flung burb and I turned it down. Now I live a mile and a half from where I work :-)

If I had to get a car and drive 2 hours every day to work, I might as well move to LA where you can at least pop the sunroof open every single day of the year and enjoy the ride.

The 895 runs express from Rosemont to Schaumburg, scheduled at 31 minutes to Woodfield Preserve. The 606 stops along Elmhurst, Algonquin, and Golf Roads and takes about 15 minutes longer.

If the drive were taking an hour and a half, and this took an hour and 40 minutes, I'd say it's at least worth trying.
