Recent college graduate with job in Schaumburg (Woodfield area), and have come across an opportunity to live in Lincoln park. Would this commute be doable by car? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks!

It would not be fun. either 290 of Kennedy I-90. Miserable congestion probably routinely 1-2 hours each way.

Just getting out of the city takes forever. Can you take the Metra?

Thanks for the replies. Metra isn't an option due to distance from my office. Would be coming from Diversey/Lincoln area.

If you can get to a blue line station, plenty of express buses run from Rosemont. Another option is Milwaukee West line from Western and Grand, though you'd need some way to get from the Schaumburg station to the office. Another issue: I 90 under construction the next two years.

Depending on what your salary is, I would not do it. My hubby did that coming from the west side of Chicago to Schaumburg and let's just say within a year he found a new job and quit. It wasn't worth the hassle and he missed too much stuff at home because he was always driving. Also it gets worse when it's snowing or icy out.
