Hello,

My sister-in-law just accepted a job in Chicago, and will be moving to the area soon. Her job allows her to work from home, when she's not on the road, so she doesn't need to live in any one particular area of another.

She is looking for a 1 bedroom, or studio for less than $1000. She wants something safe and clean. Any recommended areas to start looking? It can be in the city or in a suburb.

Thanks!

She works from home and travels, wants safe and clean apartment. I am partial to Oak Park. It has the basics: It is about 8 miles from downtown Chicago. It's walkable, places to live, places to worship, motels, hospital, not too far from shopping, excellent library, and great parks. Easy access to train, bus, taxi, limo, and zip car. She should be able to get a good Internet connection. Her biggest concern may be finding covered, secure parking without renting a house. Although renting a room mate may not be a bad idea.

OP is not a college town, but it does share a major surface street with Chicago. She does not want to live any closer to Austin than two blocks away from it. I believe the village operates a relocation service to help new residents. It is a very diverse community of singles, families, money and not so much money.

What exactly is she looking for in a neighborhood besides that? Walkability? Restaurants, cafes, shops, etc - Or does she not care and just wants somewhere quiet? There are many parts of the city that could work for her too.

Oak Park Apartments | Find your new home today!

Other parts of Oak Park are of course more desirable, but to live on Austin isn't bad. But if you are the timid type then yes don't move east of Ridgeland.
