For good or ill, our Cook County Board made source of income a protected classification under the Cook County Human Rights Ordinance, just like race, national origin, sex, and religion. This has been the case for awhile now, but there was a longstanding exception for Section 8 vouchers. However, that exception was removed effective August 2013.

So in other words, Chuckity is correct. You cannot refuse to rent to someone because they have a voucher.

The ordinance does not prevent a landlord from refusing to rent to a voucher holder on another basis, such as credit, rental history, or other non-discriminatory reasons.
