What are some white collar-office jobs in downtown Chicago that a person could do who has zero college experience? There's got to be something.

... there are temp agencies that need folks to literally sit at the reception desk and hand out name tags.

Might pay $10/hr

Most firms aren't going to hire you without any college for that.

Pretty much. Probably would be able to work in some capacity in an office's mail/copy room too. MAYBE if someone was nice enough, they'd let the OP be a secretary but even for that people will do some schooling for it.

Interesting. All of ours have gone to college (now, not for computer science/engineering or anything, but they're smart enough to know how to test. Though it takes some time to drill it into their heads how to report a defect).

Try a temp agency, then you can try different companies they send you too. and since you work with them, you have a very good chance of being hired as a permanent employee.

Depending on your experience, you might try applying to be a recruiting coordinator or recruiting assistant with the temp agencies. Experience is somewhat important, college not at all, from what I've seen. I've worked in recruitment for years, and a lot of experienced people in that industry prefer to work "in-house" (i.e. not for agencies, but for companies that recruit/hire a lot of people), due to the sales aspect of recruiting with agencies. That makes agencies a little hungrier for recruiting help.

If you're aggressive, personable, and have a modicum of admin background, it could be not just a good job, but an actual career (as a recruiter, eventually). You could also take that experience to a larger company with an in-house recruitment staff, or if you really liked the sales aspect, being a pro headhunter at an elite company is very lucrative (if you're the cutthroat type).

There's at least one call center in the Loop, too. Look up NORC (National Opinion Research Center).
