Hi I will be visiting Chicago in late August and I will be flying into ohare airport. I've read a lot of information online that the airport is very busy and every flight going and coming to it gets delayed or cancelled. Is there any truth to this and if so what can a person do to deal with it?

No. Not every flight is canceled or delayed.

I flew in and out in August 2012 without incident.

A large majority of flights coming to/from O'Hare get neither delayed nor cancelled. This could also be said for basically every airprort in the US.

O'Hare is the 2nd worst airport in the US for delays. The first is Midway. There is a 40% chance your flight will be delayed.

How to deal with it? Just sit around killing time, like a flight delay in any other airport. Bring a book or an iPad.

I've flown in and out of O'Hare 50+ times and I'm pretty sure my flight has only been delayed 2-3 times. Ever since they made 4 parallel runways, delays have been reduced a lot. O'Hare really isn't as bad as people make it seem, I always thought it was a pretty hassle free airport with lots of amenities.

As a counterpoint, I've flown out of O'Hare 50+ times and have been delayed at least 20 times. August isn't that bad but holiday season is brutal.

If Chicago is your final destination, you don't need to "deal with" anything. Just follow the signs to ground transportation after arriving, and get to the airport with plenty of time before your flight out.
