Hello all,

Landed a gig where I am able to work from home. Have had my eyes set on Chicago for quite some time.

I haven't been home in six years so I have decided to spend some time with my family in Tennessee.

My plan is to spend 3-4 months here and than make my move. Will give me chance to save a few dollars and enjoy family.

Am I crazy for planning a move to Chicago in the middle of the winter season (November/December)?

Do you all think there will be some decent deals to be found as far as apartments are concerned?

Looking for a studio apt within 15 minute drive to city. Won't have anything with me other than a car and a few pieces of furniture.

Also, I did spend some years in New York State so I have seen a few bad winters.

Thanks for all your help!

Ditch the car. Use CTA.

you'll be fine. moving on a 50 degree day in november would be quite nice. hell, a 40 degree day at the end of november isn't bad for moving.
and dont take a car. use the cta.

Moving in Nov or Dec means there are less apts available to rent, but you may also get a better deal than if you were moving in the april-oct timeframe.

A guy I worked with moved from Atlanta to Chicago in January, lol. He got lucky since the day he arrived was 40ish degrees. Could have easily swung the other way and been below zero. It's a roll of the dice, but you should be fine.

btw, he's quite happy there... working downtown and living on the North side.

You should be fine. I moved in on a hot July summer day. Not all that great.

But I agree with the above poster that you get the most rental variety to chose from in Spring/Summer in my experience. You should still be able to find something tho.

You'll be fine. Average highs in November are in the 50s and 40s in mid-December. What's your budget?

you'll do fine with that budget. There will be fewer apartments available, but you might get a deal.

No.

What's crazy is not moving to Chicago. You're doing the unquestionable right thing.
