As do I. No matter which side you are on, a careful look at the 2014 CAFR will tell you what you need to know. Page 83 is a great place to start. It clearly states the ARC is 1.78 Billion dollars for 2014, and the city only contributed 447.3 million dollars. The ARC is going up $565 million dollars for 2015, so Rahm's tax increase is not only not enough to cover that, it's still over a billion short of what is needed to fully make the required contribution. The long term debt section is also very enlightening. What you'll see is a total of $56 billion taxpayers of the future are on the hook for. Sobering numbers, and enough to give an idea that tax rates sure aren't going down any time soon.

No, the figure has always been a bit higher than that. It still doesn't mean that the Chicago is going to empty itself out.

Yes the pennies we give to the poor is ruining us, not the billions we give to subsidize the corporations, the banks and the wealthy.

The pro-business guy is usually drawn in a more "bloated' fashion ( see 1880-1890s robber baron types)...

In 2014, 24.11% of federal tax revenue went to Social Security, 23.72 went to Medicare and Medicaid, 2.18% went to food stamps, 1.54% went to SSI, 1.36% went to housing assistance, and 1.26% went to unemployment insurance. And before you say that Social Security and Medicare are for everyone, given the parlous state of most seniors' finances and the pay-as-you-go nature of these programs, they are definitely transfers from wealthier people to poorer people. Add it up, and you get 54.17%, a majority of federal expenditures. The biggest line item that could be considered transfers to the wealthy is the defense budget, in the form of payments to defense contractors, but even that includes military benefits likes pensions and the VA system. The defense budget is 21.49% of federal expenditures, not over half (a common misconception).

Some floated a Government kind of bailout?

Some forget NYC was nearly Bankrupt in 1975. It cut Fire and Police and CRIME SKYROCKETED. Was rising even before. It FIRST sought HELP From the then President Ford. HE REFUSED. The cuts had crime rise the city was BLEEDING PEOPLE.

NYC LOST 1 MILLION PEOPLE IN THE 1970s.

The Business sector and even Republicans pressured President Ford to do something..... So a reluctant President Ford AGREED TO FLOAT NYC GOVERNMENT LOANS. It all was seen as a AMERICAN BLEMISH OF FALLING FROM STATURE ..... for its LARHEST CITY TO BE BROKE..... AND TOO IMPORTANT A CITY.... FOR THE WORLD TO SEE A NYC WENT BROKE AND BANKRUPT.

The rest is history. The city RECOVERED and became the GLOBAL CAPITAL it almost lost.

As far as I know? NYC.... NEVER DID PAY BACK THE LOAND to the Government? It is wealthy today with a budget surplus and EVEN TWICE OR MORE CHICAGOS PENSIONS. BUT AGAIN FAR RICHER and Population to owe it.

SO MY HOPE IS PRESIDENT OBAMA DOES GIVE SOME HELP TO CHICAGO BEFORE HE LEAVES OFFICE.... I ALSO SEE CHICAGO AS TOO IMPORTANT A CITY TO HAVE TO CUT POLICE AND CRIME SKYROCKETS AS NYC WAS ULTIMATLY IN THE 70s on the verge of Bankruptcy.....GOT WHT AMOUNTED TO A GOVERNMENT ..... BAILOUT.

No political hate please.
Obama did give some help to Chicago-his Presidential Library. That's as good as it will get on that front. Chicago almost lost it to NYC, the same city the Obamas are speculated to be moving to after the White House as it is said they have outgrown Chicago. We shall see.

I meant clearly how NYC was virtually Bankrupt in 1975. President Ford first turned down. NYC for Federal help.

But as Police and Fire devices were cut in the city. CRIME SKYROCKED. Eventually Business and Labor pressured President Ford..... It was bad for the US image to have the city be downtrodden and too important. NYC was given government Loans then.

The rest is history. A comeback. When you here of Chicago debt today. Pensions the main culprit. Even NYC has HUGE Pension obligations. But today NYC is super wealthy. It can deal with them. Chicago's has gotten to a point as it stands..... won't be able to pay. But Police ect... were not cut severely but still not where one would want it.

Given NYC's past examples. If drastic Police cuts were made in Chicago? Is this city also too Big and with importance and image factor to the world of America's failure?

Would it be in line for NYC type BAILOUT LOANS? Already the Gang on Gang crime in African-American neighborhoods is a issue.... the "CHIRAQ" movie comes out in December.....

Crime statistics show the debt of racial divide of the crime for Chicago. THE VAST MAJORITY IN THE CIT'S AFRICAN-AMERICAN SOUTHSIDE NEIGHBORHOODS.

Statistics show Chicago if WHITE... is also in numbers of crimes a VERY SAFE CITY.

Homicide victims (recent) for 2015

Black: 331
Hispanic: 71
White (non Hispanic): 16
Other: 10

Total: 428

The Non-Hispanic White pop in Chicago is 31-33%....So 31-33% for a City of 2.72 million (about 870,400 people) and only 16 murder victims.... When White Latinos factored in Chicago is classified 43% White.

In Chicago according to Wikipedia....76% Of victims (77.4% of offenders were African-American), 18.3% were Hispanic (17.3% of offenders), and 5.6% were white (5.3% of offenders).

The black murder victimization rate was approximately 34 per 100,000; the Hispanic rate was 11 per 100,000, and the white rate 3 per 100,000
  • Victims of gang-related murders: 70% African-American , 26% Hispanic, 3% White; 93% male.
  • Offenders in gang-related murders: 76% African American, 20% Hispanic, 3% white; 99% male.
  • Victims of domestic-related murders: 79% African American, 10% Hispanic, 11% white.
  • Victims of armed robbery—related murders: 68% African American, 13% Hispanic, 19% white, 89% male.
  • Offenders in armed robbery—related murders: 87% African American, 9% Hispanic, 4% white; 93% male.

Chicago is not important enough to the rest of the country to get bailout loans. The city could die and the rest of the country would be unaffected aside from the effects of re-homing Chicago refugees (which the country deals with already if you consider the outflow of Chicago residents over the past 20 years). Good reason to elect Hillary though, she won't let it fall off the map since she's from Oak Park.

If Wall Street died the country would be ****ed which is why NYC got bailed out.
