Hi Everyone

I will be going to Depaul fall 2016 for the masters program, and I'm looking for the best neighborhoods to rent. I will be attending the Lincoln park campus for the most part

Heres my dilemma: I am recently divorced 26 yr old women. I'm originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan so i'm use to the winters and all of my needs with in close proximity. But I am coming from coastal Georgia where I lived the last 6 years, so albeit I know what winter is I haven't had to endure a whole winter in quite sometime. So I would like to be close to the train as possible and a commute that isn't terribly long because I will spend a lot of time on campus studying, grading papers and performing experiments but I also have a dog, a pitbull in fact and I know that many places have breed restrictions. prior to our divorce we owned a house so this wasn't a concern, but due to my ex husbands new baby and new apartment he cant take the dog.

i'm a yogi so I would love to be close to a yoga studio and I am a runner so an indoor track facility would be awesome if possible. and I love to eat so a place with a lot of dining options and a good grocery store would be ideal. i was an army wife for 4 out of the 6 years I was married so I'm not that much of a party girl. but I would like to be somewhere where I can foster myself a new social life with people in their late twenties early thirties .

This part may be impossible but I would like a two bedroom, living in Georgia has gotten me accustomed to having extra space. and also i have step siblings in the suburbs of Chicago and my parents, younger siblings and ex inlaws are still in Michigan so I will have lots of visitors

eta: I have a car and will be living on a masters student budget: the money I get from my ex will be mostly for the dog and all of our joint bills

You can go to these apartment finders and say you want to be by the Red Line (public train transportation). DePaul is by the Fullerton Red Line train station, 2400 N. (2400 North).

Without knowing your rent budget limitations we can't really give you very good recommendations. You might consider Logan Square near the California stop on the Blue Line. Prices are rising but still relatively reasonable, and you could take the Fullerton bus to/from class (I don't think grad students get free parking at DePaul). Otherwise, Edgewater or Rogers Park are both relatively less expensive than most of the rest of the areas near the Red Line. Or, if you don't need your car for anything else, bite the bullet, sell it and live car-free in Lincoln Park itself walkable to campus.

Monthly rental budget? This matters a lot.

Budget will be deciding factor, but I definitely suggest somewhere along the red line for a super easy commute. Your budget will also determine whether you will be able to keep your car. If you are living on a typical grad student budget, your car might have to go.

It all depends on the OP's major. Most DePaul majors are indeed at the Fullerton station (Lincoln Park). But Commerce and Computer Science are at the Jackson station (Loop/Financial District).

It doesn't matter.

Though in reality, if should really depend on where your earliest morning class is, for big sleepers.

There's a lot of apartments in the Lincoln Park neighborhood within walking distance of the university.

LOts of students live around de Paul. They also travel up and down the red line to get to other cheaper areas as well. Some students lived west down Armitage and they would hop an Armitage bus....my son's friend lived in Palmer square about half a block from Armitage and would just take the bus there. Its also worth it to call the student housing office to see if they have any advice. DePaul itself owns many building around the campus....normally they only provide them to freshmen and sophmores but you never know. They had a regular Chicago apartment building on Sheffield that they owned and housed students in.
