Things have been pretty steady, it's still a very safe area for its 100,000 residents.
Yep. I live less than a mile from the OP's block, and I feel very safe. So who's "on the ground" reporting counts - everyone's, or just those that feed into pat little arguments about crime and criminal pathology?

For a lot of people the difference seems to be the perception rather than the crime stats. More cops actually walking Halsted and Clark late at night would certainly help in this regard, as criminals know that there are a bunch of drunk people stumbling out of bars all hours of the night.

I'm usually one of said drunk people, but I can't say I've ever felt that I was in danger. I do have a friend who had her apartment get robbed in Lakeview, but, in the same time period, I had a relative have their whole home robbed in Bucktown, so I can't honestly say the robbery turned me off of Lakeview by any means. Stuff like that can, and does, happen everywhere.

Not sure of my beat off top of my head, but I'd be surprised if the crim in my neighborhood is actually down, and if that's the case, that's pretty scary.
I know petty crime comes with territory of living in city, and am no stranger to big cities as I grew up in Manhattan, I'm also aware that a city like Chicago is more vulnerable to break ins than NYC, but for the neighborhood, the crime levels are completely unacceptable in my opinion.
Wow, you live extremely close to me. I haven't personally noticed any difference, but I know our particular part of lakeview has seen a bit more this past summer and fall than usual. There was 3 men just caught a day ago that were responsible for a string of roberies for months. Hopefully with them gone it'll help out. I know the shots fired thing was (around T box i think??) party related when a guy from the burbs got into an altercation with someone.

Racism isn't the issue here, prejudice is.

If such and such are true, then there really are a bunch of sensitive ****s in here.

All of Chicago is like that.

You walk around Englewood, minding your own business, and $*** will happen to you.

You walk around Little Village, minding your own business, and $*** will happen to you.

And you walk around Jefferson Park/Norwood Park then of course the police will stop and frisk you.

Stop and frisk is only an issue if you be carrying illegal **** on you. Because if not, then it's a good thing as it allow you to show CPD you different and not typical.

I've been questioned by White people simply for walking around Canaryville.

Time to man up.

I was stopped and frisked once in Chicago. About five years ago. Apparently I fit the description of a guy who snatched someone's purse in a park near where I was walking.

(I'm white, by the way.)

"Time to man up", what the hell are you talking about? Yeah, man up and get searched when you leave the hood. You know you're different than us so you have to prove to us you're not a criminal. By the way NealIRC, showing CPD I'm not typical? What does that even mean? And how will the CPD remember I'm not typical? Will they tell me "good job" when I walk away? Please explain this startling new info you've presented.

Why does every white guy in here tend to have that one story that they are willing to pull out their a** in comparison to being a black male having the same issue?

Meaning CPD thought you were criminal/thug by the way you dress, but you showed them wrong.

That just goes to show CPD don't just frisk Black people, they stop and frisk other races too.
