Business people do WORK , it may not be the same sort of physical labor as a pipefitter and it different than the skill of a truck driver, but going over financial reports, reviewing the various options for businesses that may be facing hard times, determining how taking on loans so a firm can expand and do better than its competitors is FAR MORE APPLICABLE to running a state like Illinois than the resume of most folks that held the office of Chief Constitutional Officer and much more honest than the unethical practice of folks like Speaker Madigan who professes to be looking out for the "middle class' while earning MILLIONS by transferring the property tax liability of his high rise owning clients onto the backs of regular homeowners throughout Cook County...

No he can't. Madigan and his cronies in the Democratic party have a vice on this state.... Which is why we are going down the tube...

Too little to late. The government units of Illinois are hopelessly trapped into paying for obscene unsustainable pensions which isn't fair to the working people and businesses of Illinois. The unions won't give on the money and want yet more since they are only intereted in feathering their own nests. The population and businesses won't tolerate the 10,10,10 plan paying 10% income tax, 10% property tax, and 10% sales tax or the like which is what it will cost to sustain this racket we call govt. Every businesses and resident that leaves for Indiana, Florida, and Texas and takes their money and unfortunately vote with them only compounds the disaster.

10% real estate tax? I pay a little over 2% for outstanding schools, park district, forest preserves, libraries with low crime, great "socialist" programs. Maybe we need a graduated income tax to pay the money we owe.

There are places that are already paying 10%+ effective commercial property taxes. Most areas are 2.5-5% effective property taxes for residential.

Compare your property tax rate (database) - Chicago Tribune

Graduated income taxes are against the Illinois constitution. The pensions are not going to be paid. Eventually there will be a mediated bankruptcy or bailout like a bankruptcy as they did with GM where they are renegotiated to a sustainable level. Otherwise the already fast pace of people and businesses leaving the state will become a stampede that will bring total ruin upon Illinois.

Illinois will save a bundle on court/lawyer fees if they pay there bills like all the holier than holier posters on here. Cut what u can legally cut, pass the millionaires tax like the voters asked for (since it's unconstitutional for a progressive income tax like other states have).

The constitution can say whatever it wants when there is no money and people leave every-time they try to raise more you can't squeeze blood from a rock.

Noone is going to allow the govt to confiscate more of their hard earned money to pay for fat union hog pensions and salaries.

At this rate Illinois bonds are going to be FFF- rated and there is going to be noone left to pay taxes.

Rauner is doing all he can, he has to gain a few seats in November. I am rooting for him but the voters here are too stupid to realize how bad the democrats have bankrupted this state.
