I'm asking because my daughter was recently accepted into both LaSalle and Newberry, which are located pretty close to one another. both are magnet schools while one is a language academy and the other is a math and science academy. on great schools one is ranked 10/10 and the other is 9/10. We gotta decide if we want to choose one of these two (got accepted to a few others) or stick with private schooling (which costs a fortune).

I think I prefer a math and science academy over a language academy, and it appears both schools are diverse and in great neighborhoods.

The site you linked to useless, never rely on it for anything. Too easy for both unwarranted praise and axe-grinding cranks to distort the feedback.

Objectively LaSalle Elementary Language Academy has among the lowest percentage of low income students in the area LASALLE ELEM LANGUAGE ACADEMY: School Profile I would be concerned that there are likely overcrowding situations / large class sizes; CPS routinely crams "29.5" kind into Kindergarten and as many as 32 into upper grades. Newberry is only a wee bit less packed -- NEWBERRY ELEM MATH & SCIENCE ACAD: Class Size Parents at nicer suburban schools would probably surround the administration with bayonets drawn if class sizes were so large -- ELM ELEM SCHOOL: Class Size

It does not take a "child behavior specialist" to know that the whole environment is going to be VERY different with that many kids in a single class no matter how many "aides" are available to try to keep things orderly...

I just saw this -- CPS rescinds about 500 offers to top-notch elementary school | Chicago Sun-Times

Not really surprising given the incompetence of CPS, but a major snafu that really will make LOTS of people even more eager to get out of the poorly run system..
