Back to the original OP...

Each is a status given to someone at birth. Either one is born on the northside or the southside...and never does that change. Kind of like being a Yankee... (that's another post) Tradition demands it!

I am a northsider to the point that I now live on the north side of Charlotte. My son lives on the south side. He wanted me to move closer to him and his family. That is an unthinkable proposition; even though it is not even the right city! However, I am not so bad as my friend who lives in Chicago. Her son moved to the south side and she won't even go to see him. She requires that he come up to the north side so that she can see him and his family. They have to have 2 separate birthday parties for the grandkids because the southside grandparents won't come to the northside either!

I, at least, go to visit my son on the south side. My friend says that it is only because it is not in the correct city. If he lived on the south side of Chicago, I wouldn't go. Not quite sure about that.

The city has a West Side too but not many pay attention to it now because it's mostly Black. No doubt as the near West Side gets gentrified some real estate jerks will start calling it the "New West Side" or some other such nonsense, if they aren't already.

Most old time West Siders were Sox fans.

WTF??? The line of gentrification today is roughly Western, which is half the way to Cicero. That's almost HALF of the West Side, right now, today.

Your perceptions are a bit dated, to say the least.

No doubt. Think it'll ever gentrify out to Crawford Avenue?

My yuppie daughter lives by Ashland and Erie.

In any event there's more to Chicago than the North and South Sides. And there's also the East Side though I suppose some people consider that the South Side.

That's just stupid. Good lord.

Irish Tom, the East side of Chicago is Lake Michigan.

Not sure if the fish or whatever lives in Lake Michigan have baseball affinities. Hmmmm.

the other one: That is tradition. That's all.

It's tradition among idiots. I certainly hope that isn't a common way of thinking. I don't even live in the city and this north side/south side cubs/sox thing is just incredibly annoying. It's like being in high school, everybody from one town won't go to the next town over because they are the big rivals. Grow up.

Wrong. There is an east-side. It is on the far south-side of the city.

edit - Irishtom beat me

I used to be familiar with the neighborhood just to its south, but mainly because there was a record store there I liked to frequent as a teenager.
