it never ceases to amaze me that there are almost endless threads made in here with people with a mile long wish list trying to live in the best neighborhood, yet have a miniscule budget.

people need to have some awareness about themselves and their expectations.

I watched an episode of Tiny House Hunters yesterday set in Chicago. I was surprised they featured some really nice condos in good neighborhoods for under $200k. That just can't be had in most major cities.

I'm going to have to put my two pennies in as the snarkiness in this thread is out of control and the O.P.'s question has not been remotely answered.

First of all, where the hell are you from that you could be so naieve to assume that a $1,150 a month apartment lands you in a gang-banging neighborhood that has more gunshots than a black-and-white cowboy movie? Are you fvvking serious? You could rent an apartment in New York City for $1150 and be far from gangland, let alone Chicago tents are pretty cheap for a big city like it is

NO $1150 won't cut it downtown my friend BUT downtown is the Loop, which is more of a business district that tends to shut down at night and not many folks live in the Loop. So. You could live close to downtown for $1200. Not extremely close but maybe a 7-10 minute car ride or even a 5 minute car ride on LakeShore Drive.

Youre not going to find much in River North for $1200 which is right above downtown. Maybe LakeView, Lincoln Park (maybe), West Loop (maybe), or some surrounding neighborhood.

Or you could live like a 20-25 minute EL ride from downtown like most people and spend $1,200 and get something really nice.

What makes you think that anything outside of downtown is going to get you killed getting pizza?

By the way, the neighborhoods you're speaking of are on the far South Side, yes it's gangland, and you can rent a 3 bedroom house for $800.00. The only place you pay to live in the hood is in New York, kid.

The OP got snarked because its obviously a phony question.

View the posting history, OP is simultaneously moving to PDX, Dallas, Atlanta, Tucson, LA and Chicago and has posted the same questions 100 other times under a different account.
