I just got a job in downers grove and I am trying to figure out where to live. Right now my buddy lives in chicago and takes the metra to Naperville everyday for work. We want to get an apartment but I know I will have to do some convincing to get him to move closer towards downers grove. Any suggestions on convincing him?

Any help would be great

Can you use public tranist to work from downer's grove? Otherwise it is going to be close to hopeless. Oakpark would be great but it puts your buddy a bit away from his train. Berwyn would be good, but that area might bore a tweenty something.

Ok this post has been very helpful for me, I am moving from Iowa to Chicago and i too want to live in a cool neighborhood in the city. I have a job interview in Downers Grove and if i get it Ill wanna live in the city. I was thinking Logan Square, Wicker Park, Bucktown, Near West Side. Which one of these would be the least horrible commute?

The mix of younger people is improving in the neighborhoods west of the Loop but they still don't have as many nightspots as Lakeview. The good news is that if you do find a place west it makes a nice "stopping point" from work where you can generally get a place with better parking and overall mix of ease of commuting vs trying to live right in the heart of some neighborhood with horrible parking and heading over the cliff with all the other lemming jamming the routes in & out... It is easier to rely on CTA for heading to the nightspots and knowing your car is safe to drive to work...
