Buzzfeed taste test of LA, Chicago and NYC hot dog.

And lol at all the trolls that this thread brought out of the woodwork.
Notice how none of those hot dogs has ketchup. I don't understand Chicagoans obsession to tell everyone we don't put ketchup on hot dogs. Neither of those other cities did. It annoys the ever living s h i t out of me. You want a cookie, Chicago? You want a cookie for doing something that everyone else does but doesn't feel the need to brag about? I feel like choking people who say that.

P.s. I don't put ketchup on my hot dogs, either. Just annoys me that Chicagoans pay no attention and realize the majority of the country also doesn't.

Oh, but the majority of the country does put ketchup on their hot dogs, myself included.
Mustard Remains Americans’ Favorite Hot Dog Topping, But Ketchup Shows Surprising Popularity, New Survey Data Shows

Personally I don't like mustard very much. If it must be on something, then it better be sparingly.

Los Angeles and NYC official hot dogs don't include ketchup and neither do the official hot dogs of most major cities.

Still shows that ketchup is #2 implying that it makes little sense to put it on a hot dog. My point being that if you research hot dogs from across the country, they rarely if ever include ketchup.

And yet the majority of Americans don't care, as they put ketchup on their hot dogs. They may even do so with mustard. No one really cares what NYC, Chicago, or LA puts on their dogs, or what the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (an organization whose existence still bemuses me) thinks either.

This is especially true in public when your condiment options typically consist of ketchup, mustard, relish, or some combination of the three. People aren't trying to necessarily replicate some city's version of a hot dog when they've been handed a plain one at a sporting event or cookout.

Although I will say that Chicago's vitriol towards ketchup on hot dogs now makes more sense to me since the condiment is so popular in the rest of the Midwest.

Other cities in the Midwest also don't put ketchup on hot dogs.

The Midwest is the region most likely to put ketchup on a hot dog, as per the link.

Midwest, easily. Chicago doesn't look like East Coast cities.

Why would a city in the middle of the Midwest look like a city on the Atlantic Ocean? I don't get it.

Boston, NYC, and Philly don't even resemble each other. What a terrible argument.

St. Louis and Cincinnati resemble NE cities and they are still Midwest. I am not sure you are familiar with the Northeast OR the Midwest based on this post.

I'm from Cleveland, and I was never taught as a kid to put ketchup on a hot dog. Only mustard... or maybe relish sometimes.

But the main reason I don't put ketchup on hot dogs is that I don't like them that way. If I did, I'd do whatever the heck I pleased.
