But while we're on the subject, yea Chicago people are fixated on LA n NYC, ...especially NYC. Straight inferiority complex. You all think that NYC is the only city that brings heat. Honestly, outside of the midwest, nobody really gives a sh*t about Chi man. It's not like anybody on either coast is taking about Chicago. If they talk about other cities, typically it's cities on the opposite coast.

That said, I DO like Chicago a lot, and think it's a great city. Had madd fun in Chi back in the day! Not really trying to disparage it. Just breaking ya balls a little, lol.
I disagree. I don't think Chicago is fixated on NY or LA,nor do we have one iota of desire to be either; there is only one city that Chicago is fixated on: Chicago. Yes, we're homers and, yes, we can be obsessed about our home town; we love the place. And Chicagoans, IMHO, think Chicago is the best city in the country ("Straight inferiority complex", my ass.). Sure, that's an opinion, not fact, but it is our opinion and we stick to it. You don't get it, jermyw90: we're secure about our town so we can totally recognize and respect cities like New York, Los Angeles, Washington, San Francisco, Boston, etc., as the great cities they are....but we're just happy being ourselves. Chicago is a great city by any standard....and it doesn't need comparisons to prove it so.

and while we're at it: I can't imagine why I or anyone else would want to respond to a guy whose very first sentence on how he defines himself is "I'm about money." sad. very sad.

Again, how often do Chicagoans go into the DC forums to puff their chest?

To the poster who mentioned Chicagoans don't care about NYC, I would say NYC only crosses a Chicago mind when mentioned. When LA is mentioned, most of us imagine it as a far away land that has little to do with us but we have little to no positive or negative stance on Los Angeles. NYC can generate a rolled eye response due to a sometimes chip on the shoulder.

But DC? Honestly the only time I have heard DC mentioned in Chicago is by Blacks who have family there or desire to move there as that city has a strong pull for Blacks.

Oh brother, let's hope every thread doesn't get one these. But I still disagree with the bold sentence. I am not a Chicagoan. But did spend some time there. I was possibly the case decades ago. But the way downtown Chicago has so beautifully developed. Chicagoans know today. They have NOTHING to feel inferior over.

I agree with the post on this thread page too.

The NY inferiority complex is definitely a real thing. That's not to say everyone in the Chi is affected by it, but to act like it doesn't exist on a fairly significant scale is disingenuous. It's a shame too, because to the extent I've ever heard anyone from NY or Jerz talking about Chi it's been positive.

I have to admit that I compare Chicago to NY, because I grew up in NY, and it's my frame of reference, but while living in Chicago, I never heard Chicagoans comparing their city to NYC. They legitimately believe they live in the best city in the country. I heard far more NY comparisons while living in Boston. I think people in DC feel their city SHOULD be as or more important than NYC, and it really bothers them that it isn't. It really bothers them that our second and third cities outclass them, but LA is too far to punch up, so they take aim at Chicago.

They do now, as Chicago's downtown has evolved to NOT be seen as flyover as it use to be. But to DEFEND Chicago having amenities high-end included as NYC. Just not the quantity of NYC. Is NOT. By a Inferior Complex. Its worthy to express they have it too. Just don't have a New Yorker say Meh. You will never be close. Transplants to Chi-town can be worst in defense of it.

LOL, people talking on here about an inferiority complex. I lived in Chicago, and NEVER ONCE heard anyone compare Chicago to NYC. Not once. It really is an attempt to diminish the great city of Chicago, and I'll never understand why people feel it necessary to do that. It, though, would seem kind of funny, if it weren't so pathetic.

You haven't heard it, and I have. And?

I lived there too. Loved it, and I don't compare it to NY or anywhere else. I'm also capable of acknowledging flaws in the things I love because I'm not a phukboi. You're right though, it is pathetic on the part of the segment of the population in Chi that engages in these discussions. THAT insecurity is what diminishes the great city of Chicago, and it's frankly rather ugly.
